One area Ferrari are faster than everyone else

Ferrari have struggled so far in 2025. The high expectations coming into the season, with the partnership of the trio of Hamilton, Leclerc and Vasseur have frankly not been met. There has been underperformance in many areas, some of them might have been expected, like the continued communication issues that seem to have become synonymous with Ferrari. Others you wouldn’t have guessed, the most evident being the fundamental flaws and lack of pace of the SF-25 given the strong end to the 2024 season the team had.

On the flip side, an unexpected strength of Ferrari in 2025 has been in the pits. The Ferrari pit crew have been unmatched this year, recording the fastest pit stop at every single race so far bar Miami. Ferrari were so good in fact that earlier in the year at China, the FIA decided to conduct an in depth review of their pit stop processes.

Red Bull who used to be the king of pitstops seem to have stumbled this year. Massive pitstop mistakes in Bahrain and Miami cost them massive amounts of race time, and in the case of Miami were simply dangerous. It seems the added pressure of not having the ultimate pace in their car has generated some unforced errors in this department.

Mercedes have faced similar issues pretty much throughout the ground effect era, but notably in 2022 which was the first time their car was no longer able to make up for any poor performances in the pitlane.

If Ferrari can maintain this excellent execution in the pitlane and get their car up to scratch, when others slip up in the pits their investment will be rewarded with wins and podiums. At the moment with poor performance in other departments, it has only put them at the top of the pit stop championship and on average a couple of seconds closer to fifth place.
